Nathan Leaves 1997-2024

Nathan Leaves was a brilliant young cyclist.

He trained and competed with Newport Olympic alongside SixSummit Founder Mike.

Sadly, at just 26, Nathan took his own life. Combining work, study and maintaining a family life, meant that cycling was no longer top of the list.

The spiral of physical and mental decline, as you drift from the competitive levels you once had, is a real problem. No one around Nathan was fully aware of his troubles. Although he is free of them now, his parents and those close to him are not.

Shortly after, Nathan’s dad went on to have 2 massive strokes and his mum was diagnosed with PTSD.

Nathan was always trying to better himself. He was driven, he was ambitious and he was fast.

He went on to ride with other clubs after Newport Olympic such as NFTO, Cwmcarn Paragon, and he was later involved with Clancy Briggs.

Something needs to be done. Moving on from any competitive sport can be very tough to deal with.

The first thing we can look at is awareness. SixSummit is organising a Memorial Points Race on December 7th 2025 at the Newport Velodrome. We are also arranging for an advertising board to be displayed on the track in Nathan’s memory.

We are also working on providing a clothing range (not just in tall sizes!) under the “Nathlea” name. Supporting this clothing range will help us maintain awareness, and perhaps go on to look at ways to offer help to others.

If you have any experiences to share or ideas for how we can help, then please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you…
